After searching high and low for the perfect venue, you may be starting to think to yourself that a simple, customizable venue would be the perfect fit. Plenty of natural light, 1920’s industrial beauty, and a black/white interior that you can make all your own. If this sounds like you, it might be time to check out The Whim in Minneapolis, MN! We interviewed the venue’s owner, Jennae, to give you an inside look into this stunning space.
How old is your building, what is its history and when did you start doing events?
The building itself was built in 1920. We opened in April 2021 with our first events in October 2021!
What do you think the best feature of your venue is?
The windows! We get a ton of natural light which really makes the space special.
What do you think is the biggest challenge of working in your space, and what are some best practices for it?
Because we were able to do a build out and consult with various vendor friends in the industry on everything from lighting design, to bridal suite set-up, to kitchen flow and vendor load in, we feel like the space is super vendor and client friendly! We even have free on site parking!
What do you think is the perfect number of guests for your venue, assuming everyone will be sitting at a table at one time? What is the benefit of having this number of guests?
300 or under for a seated even with a room flip and 400+ for a standing cocktail reception. Makes the space feel full and fun!
What is the most interesting thing someone has done at a wedding at your venue?
Amazing ceiling installs and lighting elements- love seeing creative design in the space!
Do you require a professional planner or day of coordinator at your venue? Why or why not? If you don’t have one, or have one that doesn’t do a good job, how does it affect you as a venue and the wedding as a whole?
Yes- we require a third party day-of coordinator to ensure set-up and tear down run smoothly as well as the entire day. When you don’t have a good coordinator on site, things run late and set-up usually isn’t done on time. You also want to avoid charges for overtime if your vendors aren’t well organized to load out on time!
Thank you to Jennae for taking the time to do this interview and providing an inside look into The Whim. If you are in need of a coordinator for your wedding at The Whim, be sure to send us a message. We would love to partner with you to create the best wedding day ever!
