Unique Varsity Theater Wedding

Uncategorized

This was a one of a kind wedding! Tina and Alex’s love story began with a spontaneous karaoke duet of Fat Lip by Sum 41. From there, the rest is history. Their day was full of creativity, music, and atmosphere — a moody, glowing celebration of who they are, and culminating in a unique Varsity Theater wedding!

Tina spent the morning getting ready with Hair by V’s Rockin’ Cuts & Colors and Makeup by Ashley Richter, whose cool, tattooed style fit the vibe of the day perfectly!

The ceremony was held at the stunning Windows On Marquette, offering breathtaking views of the Twin Cities. The reception, however, was the real showstopper. Varsity Theater, a venue near and dear to Tina and Alex’s hearts, was the ultimate backdrop for their party. As avid concert-goers, they’d seen several shows there, so it was only fitting to celebrate their big day in a space filled with music, energy, and lights.

Of course, the couple took full advantage of their reception venue with Varsity Theater sign outside! This is truly just one of the many amazing venues that Minnesota has to offer.

The ceremony at Windows On Marquette was nothing short of stunning. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, Tina and Alex were able to create their perfect wedding ceremony. The groom’s friend who was supposed to play the ceremony music did not show up, so we had to find a venue staff member to help us with that so we could cue the processional. Then, for the recessional, we was on music duty! Despite the hiccup, everything came together beautifully. This is why it is so important to have a coordinator for your wedding! That way you, as the bride and groom, don’t have to deal with it.

With the ceremony wrapped, it was now time to head to the reception — and the excitement was real. But just as the wedding party was preparing for their grand entrance, we hit a snag: the alley they had originally planned to use was completely flooded. With quick thinking, we adjusted the entrance plan on the fly. We were able to move the lights around and it was time to party!

Tina, a high school art teacher and painter, brought her unique vision to life. With Marah Cole Designs handling the florals, the theme had moody undertones with deep, dramatic lighting, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and theatrical. Guests were even invited to paint mini canvases at the reception — a perfect expression of Tina’s artistic soul.

Of course such artistic people needed to have a live artist there! Dan Mondloch captured the ceremony and delighted guests with his art. We also LOVED seeing one of our favorite caterers, CRAVE, here. They provide not only great food, but also great service!

The first dance was a highlight of the evening. Alex made a bold entrance, lip-syncing his way to the stage. After that, the energy kept building as the couple joined the band on stage to officially kick off the reception.

It wouldn’t be Tina and Alex’s wedding without a mic in someone’s hand. The Best Man ended his speech with a rap, and then tossed it to Alex, who freestyle rapped right back. It was unexpected and so on-brand for a couple who met over karaoke.

Every corner of the reception venue was touched with intention — from custom signage and TV screens under the deck showing guest memories, to the live painter working throughout the night, creating a dramatic, real-time portrait of the evening

Tina and Alex’s day was the definition of a unique wedding: moody, musical, and creatively unforgettable. From theatrical lighting to spontaneous rap battles and a live painting in progress, it was a one-of-a-kind celebration that told their story like no other.
