Micro Wedding at The American Swedish Institute

Real Weddings

When Anne and Charlie decided to plan their wedding, they knew one thing for sure — they wanted to do it their way. No stress, no overwhelm, just an intimate, beautiful celebration with the people they love most. So instead of a huge guest list and packed itinerary, they opted for a micro wedding at American Swedish Institute with just 20 guests. And honestly? It was magic.

A bride and groom share an intimate moment in a sunlit room framed by dark wood doors and medieval stained glass windows featuring knights.

As wedding planners, we love it when couples break the mold and design a day that’s completely unique to them. For Anne and Charlie, that meant a custom wedding package tailored to their vision — and that’s exactly what we delivered. We work with their photographer Rachel Lahlum all the time and are so thankful she referred us to this lovely couple.

Anne and Charlie met through work about five years ago, after both had lived in Chicago (but never crossed paths there!). Eventually, they both moved to Minnesota — fate clearly had a plan — and in November 2022, Charlie proposed during a breathtaking hike at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Anne had a feeling it was coming, but that day still ended up being the most beautiful surprise.

When it came to choosing a venue, the couple wanted something memorable. The American Swedish Institution checked all the boxes. It’s such a stunning venue for a smaller wedding!

Keeping the day stress-free was top priority. Anne got ready at home with her mom while Salon Onyx took care of hair and makeup. Once she was wedding-ready, she met Charlie at the Historic Turnblad Mansion Veranda for their first look — a quiet, heartfelt moment before the festivities began.

Their ceremony was intimate and elegant, which is exactly what they wanted. One of the big perks of a micro-wedding is that you can hand off the logistics and focus on what matters most. We took care of the details so Anne and Charlie could soak up every second.

And yes — they got a group photo with all the guests. One of the many bonuses of a small celebration!

While the ceremony wrapped up, our team was setting up the reception area outside, and despite some pre-wedding storm scares, the weather came through! One long table made for a cozy, communal dinner, with beautiful floral arrangements from St. Croix Bloom Site as the centerpiece. Anne and Charlie brought their own decorations, and we added the perfect dessert accessories for a sweet finishing touch.

The food was absolutely unforgettable, thanks to Slate and Stone , and the cake from Hark Cafe had everyone talking.

As the evening wound down, Anne and Charlie made a low-key exit, exactly the way they wanted. Their wedding may have been “micro,” but it was filled with love, laughter, and moments that mattered — all with zero stress.
