Colorful Walker Art Center Wedding

Real Weddings

Austin and Quinn met during their freshman year of college at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. They were music students and got to know each other in the community orchestra. The couple started dating shortly after they met in 2013! They have since lived in 6 different apartments, traveled several road trips, made many good friends, spent countless hours studying through college (and even more hours dancing at the nightclub), and ultimately ended up together here in Minneapolis. As you can see, they have already lived a very full life together!

In 2022, Quinn traveled to Washington D.C. for an academic conference. Austin flew out to meet him. Quinn was able to sneak away from the conference for a day, and the couple explored museums and monuments. Later that evening, Austin proposed to Quinn over drinks at an eclectic lounge. Of course he said yes, and it was officially time to start wedding planning!

It was a random day in January 2023 when we got a call from Austin about our services. We were immediately excited at the possibility of being a part of their day! After thinking it over, Austin and Quinn decided to move forward with our Management Package and we got to work!

When the couple booked with us they didn’t have a photographer or florist, so we were glad to connect them with two of our favorites: Rachel Lahlum Photography and Studio B Floral. When we saw their engagement photos come back, we knew it was the perfect photographer match. I mean look at how great they turned out!

The couple opted to get married at a courthouse the day before the wedding because one of their parents did the same. They chose the courthouse in Hennepin County with an LGBT-affirming judge to officiate with a small crowd of family and friends. The courthouse wedding felt symbolic to the couple, because gay people were not able to get legally married in Minnesota courts until 2013.

The following day, they invited a larger group for a wedding reception at The Walker Art Center. The Walker Art Center was the perfect venue for the couple’s wedding. They spend a lot of personal time supporting local non-profits and the arts, and they wanted to continue their support on this important day. Working at a museum is always a challenge because of the timing and rules. Luckily, the KUE team has a lot of experience in various museums and knows how to work with these details to create a seamless day!

Prior to the reception, guests could arrive early to receive a voucher to make their way through the museum. This is always a fun touch and unique activity that most weddings aren’t able to offer! During this time, Austin and Quinn were getting portraits at the sculpture garden and their vendors were busy setting up for the evening ahead. We absolutely loved the couple’s colorful suits from Nordstrom!

To continue embracing color, the couple decided to have Studio B Floral create vibrant floral arrangements for the space. To keep the look clean, they stuck with white linens and clear, simple votives from our rental inventory.

The couple arrived around 4:00pm to be ready to greet their guests upon arrival. They were also able to get a few pictures in the space with Rachel Lahlum Photography beforehand! Everyone then made their way outside to enjoy a bit of social time and an amazing view of the city. Guests were also encouraged to sign the couple’s guest book which was a pride flag!

Around 5:30pm the KUE team began inviting guests to take their seats in the reception space. The couple was announced and KUE owner, Dana, got to act as an officiant as they affirmed their vows in front of everyone since she is ordained!

The couple then gave a welcome speech and D’Amico began serving the delicious dinner. We love working with D’Amico, they have an amazing attention to detail! The desserts were also provided by D’Amico and satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. We love the lego versions of Austin and Quinn that the couple provided as the cake topper!

Before Rachel Lahlum Photography left, she made sure to capture the couple’s table dash to ensure that they would have photos with all of their guests. When done right, this is such a fun touch to add to your reception!

The couple knew they wanted to make it an early night at Walker, so around 9:00pm everyone left the venue. The party wasn’t over though, everyone made their way over to the after party at Saloon MN and had an amazing end to a wonderful day celebrating Austin and Quinn!
