A Backyard Wedding Ceremony and a 6Smith Reception

Rhonda and Rod knew from the beginning that they wanted a simple, meaningful wedding surrounded by their closest friends and family. As this was a second marriage for both, their main focus was on blending their families together in a heartfelt and intentional way. Having a backyard wedding ceremony and a 6Smith reception was the answer!

Even though their wedding was small, they hired us for practical planning support—which included helping them find the perfect venue. We explored a variety of options, but after really listening to what mattered most to them, we decided on an intimate ceremony at home with just 20 of their nearest and dearest, followed by a cocktail-style reception at 6Smith.

On the morning of the wedding, Rhonda wanted everyone to feel comfortable and true to themselves, so she chose to have each person do their own hair and makeup. It was a lovely way for everyone to feel authentic and relaxed. After getting ready, Rhonda and Rod shared a private first look—a moment we always recommend. It gives couples a chance to connect before the ceremony and allows the photographer to capture some beautiful photos ahead of time.

For the ceremony, Rhonda and Rod included a beautiful family-blending ritual. Each of their children placed a rose into a shared vase, symbolizing the unity of their new family. We love it when couples add personal touches like this to make their ceremony truly unique.

After the ceremony, it was time for a 6Smith reception! Since the restaurant was about 30 minutes from the house, they arranged transportation with Renee’s Limousine   for themselves and their kids so no one had to worry about parking or logistics. We always suggest investing in transportation for your wedding party—it’s one of those details that keeps the day stress-free and enjoyable.

A 6Smith reception would hold a special place in their hearts—it’s where they had their first date! Before heading to the rooftop patio, they stopped by the nearby beach with their photographer, Studio Veil, for some stunning portraits. When they arrived upstairs, guests greeted them with raised glasses of bubbly before the couple gave their welcome toast.

To keep the vibes high all evening, they chose The Jason Paulson Band to perform—a favorite they’d enjoyed together over the years. With Rod being in the band himself, it was no surprise that he hopped on stage to join the band for a few songs!

The couple kept the celebration short and sweet. Since it was a Sunday and they chose not to have dancing, the evening wrapped up around 7 p.m. The couple and their children enjoyed a relaxed ride home on the shuttle, ending the day on a calm and joyful note.
